I'm like Derek Jeter, the baseball player, making his last impressive move I'm like Wayne Gretzky, the hockey player, taking his last hit I'm like Tony Montana, the main character from Scarface, while running low on drugs I'll correct your behavior, or you'll end up in a coffin I'll mess with your mind and leave you confused I have a large group of supporters with me I frequently switch locations and act like a pimp You were lavish with your gifts, but I only bought her something smallĭipping and you know it, I be pimpin like I owe it ![]() Heard you spoil her ass, when I bought her a number two Look for me at a specific location with someone born in 1992 I'm living out my dreams, including traveling and being with desirable women Making wishes, now I'm french kissing your bitch in Paris I have great foresight and am in a prime location in Los Angeles That's like pissin' in a freezer, trying to make canariesįinding a loyal partner is difficult and feels impossible I'm open to settling down and finding a partner People constantly hate on me, it's a tough industry I believed people liked me once I became successful ![]() I am talented when I'm under the influence of drugs and alcohol I require alcohol to stay awake and alert I'm always ready for whatever and can maintain my drug use I'm an up and coming artist with a loyal fanbaseĮvery time my song is played, I'll celebrate with another drink If you have the financial resources I'll treat you well I don't pay for drinks because clubs want me there to attract attentionĬlubs desire my presence for the buzz it generates I roll weed all day and mix it in my champagne I use drugs to numb my physical and emotional pain I'm distracted by the allure of fame and fortune Out of all the people vying for your attention, I'm the one you see There's nothing bad about enjoying the attention of fans There ain't nothing wrong with groupie love I know this because you give your attention to many women ![]() The lyrics are somewhat shallow, but they're also a lot of fun, and they do a good job of evoking the glamorous yet twisted world of fame and fortune that The Weeknd and French Montana inhabit. Overall, Gifted is catchy and well-produced, with an insistent beat and memorable hooks. Despite all the negativity, however, he still manages to keep himself going with a string of catchy rhymes and flexes. He also references a number of famous people who found success at a young age, only to meet with tragedy or fall from grace - Whitney Houston, Jimi Hendrix, and Tiger Woods to name a few. He claims that he's been hated on for making it in the business, and that it's a "dirty game" where people will turn against you for no reason. Despite all that, however, he still manages to keep his fans happy and make a lot of money - in the chorus, he suggests that he's at his best when he's high, because that's when "they love me", and he gets paid.įrench Montana's contribution to the song is more hard-hitting, and focuses on the darker side of the music industry. He goes on to say that all he does is kill pain and smoke weed, and that he spends his days in a hazy, hedonistic fog. He claims that he's the only one French Montana will notice, and that it's hard for him to focus because his body is so numbed by drugs and alcohol. The song starts with a direct reference to the groupie culture surrounding celebrities - "all these bitches hate you" - which The Weeknd seems to be unashamedly part of. The lyrics of The Weeknd & French Montana's song Gifted are all about the glamour and debauchery of the celebrity lifestyle. ![]() You can call me Hugh Hefner on his last fling This that Jimi Hendrix on his last string This that Whitney Houston on her last track This that Wayne Gretzky on his last scratch I tighten you up, them coroners will button you up Now I'm french kissing your bitch in ParisĬome and find me di Giannis that's from '92Ĭome and find me now, I got an army with me now Hawk vision, LA heels right on Huff Terrace Niggas hated all the time, it's a dirty game I be gifted when I'm faded, faded all the time 'Cause I'm down for whatever I can always keep it upĪll I need is some liquor just to keep a nigga up 'Cause they want me, they want me in their clubīut if you got the numbers I'll be glad to show you loveĮvery time they play my song I'ma fill another cup I be rolling all day, mix it in the champagneĪnd these bottles all free, not a single drink paid
